Scope of work of the Ministry includes state administration which is responsible for: strategy and policy of the development of agriculture and food industry; analysis of production and market of agricultural products; balance of agricultural and food products and a stockpiles’ system of basic agricultural and food products; measures of market-price policy, structural policy and land policy in agriculture; incentive measures for the development of agricultural production; proposing solutions and protective measures for the import of agricultural and food products; protection and use of agricultural land; production of agricultural inputs for agricultural and food industries; manufacturing and distribution of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, ethanol, tobacco and tobacco products and food products; quality control of agricultural and food products, wines, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, fruit juices, concentrated fruit juices, fruit nectars, fruit juice powder, mineral water , ethanol, tobacco and tobacco products in domestic and foreign trade; rural development, agricultural professional services; market information system in agriculture; production, certification and trade and quality control of seeds and seedlings; the recognition and protection of plant varieties and breeds of domestic animals; determining compliance with the conditions, risk assessment and implementation of control measures related to the biological safety of limited use, the introduction of the production, marketing and import of genetically modified organisms; conservation and sustainable use of plant and animal genetic resources for food and agriculture, as well as other duties according to the law.

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management conducts affairs of state administration with regard to: management of agricultural land in state ownership; the establishment and management of the information system on agricultural land in the Republic of Serbia; the allocation of funds for performing activities and monitoring of the annual program of protection, development and utilization of the agricultural land in the Republic of Serbia; monitoring of the development of the Republic agricultural production base and its realization; keeping the register of local self-governments’ agricultural base, and other activities in accordance with the law.

 

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management also includes Directorates for veterinary, plant protection, forests, Directorate for Water, as well as the General Inspectorate of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management. Each of these administrative offices conducts public administration and professional activities.
